Poet

Nelson’s Paradise Lost

To sea, to sea, the relentless sea,

I, the seeker of glory and immortality, be.

Glory achieved, full recognition yet attained,

Alas, lengthy separation has left me maimed.

Emma’s love burning brightly -

Piercing my soul,

Like Poseidon’s electrified trident.

Yet a nation to defend,

And from that I cannot bend.

Merton emerges as that brightest beacon,

My one final goal to reach.

But after that one final stunning victory,

The most precious attainment in history.

Visions of Merton pierce through the darkest mist,

But one final victory - I must insist.

Emma and Horatia, my most worthiest reward -

Consumed by fiercest love, I see

Survival to that final stage, I plea.

God grant me safe delivery

To the arms of two precious beings

To that glorious paradise Merton

I can be certain -

Theirs forever, even beyond this world.

That is my kismet,

Fly me forthwith!

Glory, duty and the sea,

Just cannot be the death of me.
